Credit Notes & Corrections

A credit note reduces what a client owes on an issued invoice. It has its own number series and its own PDF.

Choose the reason and the amount

Open the invoice and click Credit note. Pick a reason (price adjustment, scope reduced, service shortfall, billing error, cancellation or goodwill), then the amount per line, or Reverse the whole invoice. Tax is credited in proportion.

Decide where the credit goes

Split the credit note between:

  • This invoice: reduces its balance;
  • A refund: money back against a payment you received;
  • Client credit: kept to apply to a later invoice.

Cancel and reissue

When an invoice was wrong (wrong client, wrong amounts), Cancel & reissue credits it in full and opens a corrected draft. Payments on the original move to the new invoice when you issue it.

Voiding a credit note

A credit note can be voided only if nothing depends on it: no refund paid under it and no invoice reissued from it.
